Obama Politicizes Bin Laden Death

On this, the first anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden by Seal Team Six, President Obama just couldn’t contain himself.  He just had to use his giving the “Okay” to move on bin Laden as a Campaign Ad.  In addition to the ad, according to the Mail Online “…the White House is marking the first anniversary of the SEAL Team Six raid that killed bin Laden inside his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan with a series of briefings and an NBC interview in the Situation Room designed to highlight the ‘gutsy call’ made by the President.”  Everytime Obama feels that his administration has accomplished something he always refers to it as “I” did this or “I” did that.  It is never “We” did this or “We” did that.  However, when something fails, it’s always someone else’s fault.  Usually George W. Bush’s fault.

I’ve always felt that any type of leader, whether they are a President, community leader or athlete, doesn’t need to “spike”the ball to draw attention to their feat.  If it’s truly an accomplishment, people will notice.  That’s why, to me, it’s so refreshing to watch a football player who scores a Touchdown hand the ball to the official and jog off the field.  The feat speaks for itself.

It has been my opinion that President Obama’s hands were forced on the Osama bin Laden killing.  I believed and still do, that Obama was backed into a corner on this decision.  If word got out that bin Laden was indeed in that compound and he escaped, the political damage to Obama would have been devastating.  Remember when Bill Clinton tried to convince the Saudi’s to accept bin Laden if the Sudanese expelled him?  It was alleged at the time that Clinton was offered bin Laden by the Sudanese minister of state for defense, Maj. Gen.  Elfatih Erwa.  Note that there is some dispute as to whether this really occured but when word leaked out after 911 that it did, Clinton took quite a bit of heat for it.  Anyway, at some point down the road, after Obama leaves office, I believe information will come out that will confirm my belief, that he felt he had to move or risk political damage should bin Laden slip away.  Obama had actually waited a long time before finally deciding to give the okay as you will see in the next paragraph.

In the Mail Online article, they quote former Navy Seals and Intelligence Officers, that are not happy that the President is politicizing the Obama killing:  A former intelligence official who was serving in the US government when bin Laden was killed said that the Obama administration knew about the al-Qaeda leader’s whereabouts in October 2010 but delayed taking action and risked letting him escape.

‘In the end, Obama was forced to make a decision and do it. He knew that if he didn’t do it the political risks in not taking action were huge. Mitt Romney would have made the call but he would have made it earlier – as would George W. Bush.’

I suggest you read the Mail Online article.  It’s very good and provides some insight into what people within the Black Ops and Intelligence communities are thinking about politicizing Osama bin Laden’s death.

Former New York Governor George Pataki has weighed in on this subject as well.

What do you think?

Just Asking.
