Operation Gunwalker – Whose Idea, ATF, Justice, President?

I can’t imagine you haven’t heard by now of Operation Gunwalker, aka Operation Fast and Furious.  If you haven’t, it was an operation  run by the ATF at the U.S. Mexico border.  More than 2000 weapons, including AK semiautomatic type weapons, were allowed to be purchased by gun smugglers and taken across the border into Mexico where they ended up in the hands of drug cartel members and gangs.  It’s believed that some of those weapons were used to kill civilians, Mexican officials and possibly Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.  Terry was shot in mid December 2010 in a confrontation with what were described as “heavily armed suspects near Rio Rico, AZ.”  Agent Terry died the next day.  Guns with serial numbers matching those sold to gun runners were found at the site of the confrontation.

U S Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry

Just who the hell’s idea this was is still not clear.  What is clear is that this was a very bad idea that went the only way it could go…Bad!  It still is not clear to me what the purpose of this was.  Some are speculating political….That the Obama Administration wanted to show that it was U.S. guns at the border that were causing problems.  Apparently they believed that it would be easier to get gun controlling legislation.  At least that’s what I got out of it.  I don’t know if it’s true but if it is, what a stupid thing to do.  Townhall.com seems to think it’s true after seeing ATF emails.

I actually heard about the selling of the guns to smugglers last March and thought WTF?  I want to say that I heard at the same time that the guns were rigged in some way so as to track them or they wouldn’t operate properly.  I can’t remember exactly.  Now that the story has evolved with the killings of civilians, and U.S. and Mexican officials, the “Sh.. is beginning to really hit the fan.

A Congressional investigation is underway by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.  Congressman Darrell Issa is leading the investigation.  He’s not happy with the pace at which Attorney General Holder’s Justice Department is supplying requested information about Operation Fast and Furious.  Issa is also upset that all the requested information is heavily redacted.

The latest news today concerning this whole mess, is that the acting head of the ATF, Kenneth Melson, will be losing his job.  That could happen at any time.  Is Melson the fall guy or is he the architect of this mess?  Some believe that the Justice Department is stonewalling the investigation by the House Oversight Committee.  Is the Dept. of Justice hiding something?  Did Obama sign off on Operation Gunwalker?

This mess could get real nasty before it’s over.

One of the sad things about this operation is that the ATF Agents complained about it from the beginning.  They knew this was not a good idea.  Even though they made their feelings known, it still moved forward.  Where has commonsense gone?  Just Asking.

Did Operation Fast and Furious have a TWIN?  Operation Castaway?

From Townhall.com, more Gun Control legislation in light of Operation Fast and Furious.  Keep in mind that the Government was the problem, not individuals!
