Mishmash: Budgets… Weiners… Hooters… and Quantitative Easing

I’m on a badly needed vacation and politic’d out.  Thought I would do a Mishmash of stuff.  You know, where I really don’t have to think too much.  Some would say that’s never been a problem anyway.  For the record, I agree.

Today the President held another one of his patented meetings with Congressional folks at the White House.  Today’s meeting was on the budget, specifically raising the debt limit and what it will take to get the Republican controlled House to agree to raising it.  These meetings are more show for the President than anything else.  The last time he met with House leaders concerning the budget he said I won the election and election’s have consequences……  It was basically a “go to hell” meeting.

Today’s meeting was slightly different.  The Republicans want spending cuts before they agree to raising the debt limit.  Today, they basically said “go to hell.”  Call us back when you have a plan with serious spending cuts.

What’s so funny to me is that the meeting was a whole 75 minutes.  We are trillions of dollars in debt and the President alots 1 hour and 15 minutes to tackle the problem.  Really?

The House May Have a Weiner Problem.

I could care less what Anthony Weiner does on Twitter.  If he wants to send political information or pictures of whatever, as long as it’s legal, doesn’t matter to me.  He needs to keep in mind that whatever he does could offend someone.  He is not only a public figure but has actually cast himself out there to the point where he is a lightening rod.  Whatever he says or does is going to be scrutinized very carefully.  Those that dislike or disagree with him are just waiting for a chance to pounce upon anything they deem controversial.

I’m willing to give the Congressman the benefit of a doubt as to whether he sent the image in question.  His Twitter account could have been hacked.  My only question is, why not report the incident to the FBI or proper authorities for investigation?  By not reporting it,  it looks as though he is hiding something.  I say something because he may not be guilty of sending the image but could he have said or done something else incriminating or embarrasing that an investigation might reveal?

One final thought.  Today Congressman Weiner said that he couldn’t say for sure whether it was a picture of him or not.  Say What?  You would think,  that you would know,  whether you or someone else “ever” took a picture of you in your underwear with a WOODY?  Wouldn’t you?  The Congressman certainly didn’t do himself any favors with that statement.

So, is it real or is it PhotoShop?  Just Asking.

Update:  6/1/11   Tonite on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC Show, Congressman Weiner said the photo, “Maybe started out being a photo of mine.”  Developing, unraveling, I know there is a joke here somewhere.   http://www.mediaite.com/tv/rep-weiner-tells-maddow-twitter-photo-maybe-started-out-being-a-photo-of-mine/

The Progressive Lunch

Did you hear about the eighth graders from Pennsylvania, that while on a field trip to Baltimore, had lunch at Hooters?  When I was in eighth grade (about 80 years ago) and we were on our field trip to the Shrine Circus, our lunch was at McDonalds.  Wow, how times have changed.  Apparently the parents of these kids were not too upset, if at all.  According to the schools superindendent, he has not received any complaints.     http://www.wtop.com/?nid=681&sid=2405585

More Quantitative Easing

Just what we need, more cheap money.  I hope that Simon Maughn,  co-head of European equities at MF Global is wrong.  In an interview today with CNBC Maughn said:

“The bond market is going in one direction which is up-falling yields which is
telling you quite clearly the direction of economic travel is downwards.
Downgrades. QE3 (a third round of quantitative easing) is coming,” said Maughn.
“The bond markets are all smarter than us, and that’s exactly what the bond
markets are telling me.”       http://www.cnbc.com/id/43233866

The problem with quatitative easing is that we all pay for it with higher prices for goods and services.  How long before we need a wheel barrow to haul our money in when we go to the grocery store or gas pump?  Just Asking.
