“…sideshows and carnival barkers…”

As you are no doubt aware of by now, President Obama finally put the kabosh on the birther issue.  Thank You Mr. President.  In his statement he referred to what he called “…sideshow and carnival barkers…” distracting us from the real issues.  He said it was now time to put this issue to rest because, “We’ve got better stuff to do.  I’ve got better stuff to do.”  He went on to say that, “We’ve got big problems to solve, and I’m confident we can solve them, but we’re going to have to focus on them, not on this.”  I will give the president a Big 10-4 on that.  My question is, then why did it take so long to come out with the long form certificate?  Haven’t we had these problems since you entered office?  Apparently,  all “The Donald’s” clacking must have made the president think twice about letting this phony issue fester.  I think recent polls may have convinced the president to put the issue to rest too.  Recently more people began to question his citizenship and some I’m sure just wanted the president to do what he did today…show the longform and let’s get on with the business of running America.  I agree.

I thought that before President Obama left the brief press conference, he might have extended condolences to the families of the nine Americans killed in Afghanistan today.  Not only would it have been the right thing to do, it would have underscored the “big problems” we have to solve.

One last question.  Why, if as the president said, “I’ve got better stuff to do…..big problems to solve…” did he head off to tape the Oprah show and to three fundraisers in New York City tonight?  Just Asking.  The election is way off.  He has a big war chest.  The “bully pulpit” and the media belong to him.  He can do a press conference practically anytime he wants,  about whatever he wants and have it covered.  Publicity is not a problem for an incumbent president.

For a moment I thought the president may have been sincere.
